Here at Higher Gear we have all your fitness hybrid bike needs, from Specialized to Scott to Bianchi. Fitness hybrid bikes come with 700c wheels that are a touch wider than a traditional road bike tires. These tires are more resistant to flats and have more traction – a must have if you want to ride on rougher roads or a crushed limestone-like trail. Fitness hybrid bikes are great for people that want an efficient bike but don’t want the dropped body position. Some of the great features of fitness hybrid bikes are: • Disc brakes. These are great for riders who ride year-round, or those who are going to ride in rougher conditions. • Ergonomical grips. These take out some of the vibration your hands and shoulders feel from the road.

www.bikefactory.com.au Hi, Nigel Abbot, Sydney Australia; well I’m about to go and test the Trek Remedy 9. It’s a bike that’s designed for cross country all the way through to all mountain, and it’s been loaned to me by the Brookvale Bike Factory. Go and check their website, bikefactory.com.au because you can sign up for one of their Trek demo days. Anyway, I’m at the Manly Dam and I’m going to put this bike through its paces, so let’s see how it goes. The transfer of muscle power through the wheels is delivered with minimal energy loss and stress on the body. You feel very powerful and confident on this bike in all conditions and situations. The rear suspension system is brilliant and its success is due to the combination of the ABP and the DRCV shock. ABP means active breaking pivot, basically it allows your suspension to remain active regardless of whether you’re pedalling, coasting or braking. The DRCV shock has two air changes. The primary is for small bunts, high frequency and the secondary is for bigger hits. The upside is greater control, balance and stability in all conditions. What I experienced with (01 was the ability to attack technical climbs with ease, regardless of being in the saddle or standing. The wheel seemed to track and engage effortlessly with the terrain. This bike has made me realise how vital your equipment is for delivering a maximum result. What really blew me away was the bike’s ability to descend at high speed and its performance with the …

This is one of my favorite trails of all time, Hazard Peak. With two crazy fast downhill trails leading away from it, as well as the majestic mountains and great ocean view, I think it is one of the greatest mountain biking places in California. This is shot on the GoPro HD Helmet Hero in 1080p HD and my bike is a Trek / Gary Fisher Rumblefish 29er.
This year, Specialized brings one of the best trail bikes out there to the table. For 2012 there is an oversized axle and wider spacing in the back end of the bike. This is awesome for keeping the back end stiff, strengthens the back wheel and favors an aggressive rider. A 2×10 drivetrain eliminates the larger underutilized chainring, and when paired with an oversized 36 tooth cog in the back, you eliminate redundant gears, smooth out the shifting process, and reduce weight. Specialized has included a new feature called Auto sag, which is designed to measure your weight including all your gear to give you perfect sag every time. No more tools on the trail, or stopping to adjust your sag. All the features on this bike are fine tuned to the aggressive mountain biker’s needs. Check it out at Montrose Bike Shop today! Montrose Bike Shop is close to the 5, 2, and 210 freeways. Hours: M – F 10am – 7pm, Sat. 10am – 6pm, Sun. 10am – 4pm. 818.249.3993 2501 Honolulu Ave., Montrose, CA www.MontroseBike.blogspot.com
